Tiger Stripes:
Welcome to Neigerdesign

A promotional video introducing prospective clients to NeigerDesign's company culture and body of work. (Created in After Effects for a 2023 Internship at NeigerDesign and Strategic Marketing, May-August 2023.)

Project Brief

The other intern and I were to create a short video for the NeigerDesign website introducing clients to the brand's creativity, go-getter attitude, and family-like workplace environment while showcasing portfolio pieces and tying in the company's Tiger mascot.

What I Created

The other 2023 summer intern, Ryan Mulroy, and I created this video as a joint effort. I created the overall concept and script for the piece and took care of the technical production, finding the stock footage, images, and music, shooting the video, creating animations, and editing. Ryan worked the planning end of the project, helping in initial concept generation, creating a project schedule, communicating with third-party consultants to hire camera equipment and voice acting, and helping with shooting throughout. CEO Carol Neiger and creative director Jonathan Amen provided additional help by sourcing portfolio pieces and helping secure stock images/videos and high-definition portfolio mockups, respectively.

I created this video using a variety of footage I shot myself combined with stock footage and two pre-existing animations, the animation of the tiger flashing through a variety of colors and patterns and the NeigerDesign logo animation at the end.

Takeaways

Creating this video taught me skills in translating brand identity and values into a concise and engaging video, as well as the process of undertaking a larger, longer-term creative project in an office environment. Additionally, it let me polish a laundry list of technical skills: project management, sourcing stock images/videos/music, camera work (shooting and managing content), After Effects skills (including media management, color grading and other initial post processing, and animation), and editing.

Process work
Brainstorming

To begin the project, the CEO walked us through her vision of the video, giving us a brief history of NeigerDesign and expressing that she wanted a video which would not only share portfolio pieces, but the company's culture. Ryan and I used the information to create a mind map, laying out potential approaches to the video and the content we wanted to cover.

Script Writing and Storyboarding

Once we'd settled on a basic direction, I continued writing and developing to produce three concepts: one featuring office footage showcasing the office's work and attitude, one structured more as a how-to video based around the concept "how do you make your brand stand out?", and one more fictionalized video depicting the office staff as "personal trainers" helping a company get into shape. After discussion, we settled on the first concept.

I then developed a storyboard and a list of assets we would need, while Ryan and I collaborated on a shot list.

Production and Post Production

Ryan and I shot the footage over the course of a week. I moved the footage onto the computer and sorted it into bins based on content (office at work, office b reel, etc). From there, I created the animations, laid them over the videos, and began post processing and editing work.
